Postman Pat, the pre-school children’s animated cartoon character, first appeared on British television in 1981. He lives in fictional village Greendale with his black and white cat Jess. Each episode follows Pat’s adventures as he sets off in his van to deliver the mail. He nearly always becomes side-tracked along the way by villagers with their problems, which he tries to resolve. Other characters include Mrs Goggins the post mistress, Alf the farmer, Miss Hubbard, a local resident who rides a bicycle and handyman, Ted Glen.
